It should be noted that no kind of sex (oral, vaginal, etc) is 100 percent safe. The only way you can completely protect yourself from Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) is through total abstinence. But if you do have to have sex, then the tips below would help keep your risks of contacting a (sometimes deadly) disease to the bare minimum.
1. Use a Condom:
This cannot be over-emphasized. Condoms are the perfect way to protect not just yourself but your partner. They are usually about 97 percent effective against STDs. It is also important for you to know the correct way to use them. Do not assume that because you have been making use of them for years, that you are using them correctly. You can take a few minutes from your time to go through a tutorial on how condoms are to be used, it could save your life.
2. Communicate with your partner:
Do not be afraid of asking the necessary questions when it comes to sexual issues. If you are going to have (or are having) sex with this person, you reserve the right to question them about their sexual past or any other related sexual issues. This does not guarantee they will tell you the truth but it is still important you have this conversation.
3. Get Tested:
Get regular check-ups and tests as regards your sexual health. A lot of people would have been able to prevent serious health issues (or even death) if their sexual disease was caught early on. The only way to ensure you are of no risk to yourself and others is to make sure you get tested as often as you can. That way, you can be sure to deal with whatever comes up before things get life-threatening.
